Observation of Technology
In my 3rd grade classroom at Highland Creek Elementary School technology was asked to be used in as my lessons as possible. Some lessons had more technology than others, however, it was used in some way almost every lesson. In my clinical experience classroom the teacher used a powerpoint on the smartboard as her tie into technology pretty much every lesson. The students did not get to use the smartboard which is something I wish was different. The students did get to use the computers in the room to do research for projects and take their AR tests.
When I gave my lessons I used the smartboard to show powerpoints and had the students click through the pages for me. I also used to smartboard to show a video for my science lesson as my way to capture my students attention. During my math lesson I used the smartboard to do an online manipulative for fractions. I called the students up and had them manipulate the smartboard. The students were better concentrated when I did this because they knew they would only get to use the smartboard if they were paying attention and on task. It was something different for the students and they really seemed to love it. I hope the teacher continues this technique.
The students seem to understand technology and when I had problems with the smartboard they all knew how to fix it better than I did. They use technology outside their classroom so much it comes second nature to them. I loved that they taught me new activities, websites, and apps you can use with the smartboard and internet. In my own classroom I hope to use the students as a resource for new and interesting technology ideas; as they have grown up with the best technology out there.
