Reflection
When interviewing the 3rd graders I realized they really like to be coaxed through answers. I had to work really hard to get an sort of quality answer from them. There was a wide range of answer I received from the different students interviewed. I also learned that they have a bit of a disconnect from school and college and future jobs. Most of the jobs they wanted were either athletic or musical. The above interview was the only person that said they wanted to be a doctor or other college educated job. However, all the students said they wanted to go to college. I think it is instilled in children at a very, very young age that they are expected to go to college. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. I think it is important for students to have something they are working for from the beginning of their time in the classroom.
Through the interview I also learned that students expect teachers to have rules and guidelines. They thrive off that and respect a teacher more for those rules and guidelines. They seem to love you no matter what and want to please their teacher. These student especially want to be "good students" and work hard to meet the classroom expectations. They all seemed to like school and that had a lot to do with Ms. Orr, my coordinating teacher. They said that they liked how she made school fun and a safe place to answer questions. They knew it was okay if they messed up every now and then.
I did these interviews during recess and I thought they would hate that but they were begging to be the one to be interviewed. I thought that showed how into school they were and how much they wanted to be involved. They all wanted to impress me and know what I was doing all the time. I had a great group of students and wish I had, had time to interview all of them. I really enjoyed hearing their answers.
